How to download plug-ins

Sometimes when you are viewing documents that instructors have placed in blackboard, the files might not display correctly. This will require students to install the software or plug-in on the computer.

1. Login to Blackboard 6.1
   
   
2. Click on the Help Tab on the top left part of the page
   
   
   
   
3. The Blackboard Support Web site will display. This page has student help and faculty help. Under the Student column scroll down and you will see the the help options
   
   
   
   
4. In the help options click on the plug-ins option.
   
   
   
   
5. This will take you to the download plug-ins screen. Here you will see a list of links to the most popular plug-ins. Each link will take you to a web site that will instruct you on how to download the particular plug-in.
   
   
   
   
6. We will download MS Power Point 2003 plug-in. Most Microsoft plug-ins are available through the Microsoft Office Converters & Viewers link. Click on this link.
   
   
   
   
7. On the new screen scroll down to the PowerPoint Converters and Viewers and click on PowerPoint 2003 Viewer link.
   
   
   
   
8. This will give you a list of the required applications. Click on the PowerPoint 2003 viewer.
   
   
   
   
9. A new screen with all the application download requirements will open. If you scroll down you can read the instructions to download.
   
   
   
   
10. Click on the Download Button at the top of the page.
    
    
    
    
11. A Save As window will open and ask if you want to Save or Open the application. By clicking Open, you can install the application from the server directly without saving, however it is recommended that you save it to your computer hard drive and then install it.
    Click on Save and the Save As window opens up.
    
    
    
    
12. Identify the file name and the location where you want to save that file and press Save again
    
    
    
    
13. A progress window will open and the file will start downloading to the specified location. The purple bar shows the progress of the download.
    
    
    
    
14. Once the download is complete Click Open button at the bottom of the progress window
    
    
    
    
15. Another window will pop up and ask you if you want to install PowerPoint 2003 Viewer on your computer. Click the Yes Button.
    
    
    
    
16. When you click YES, the computer starts installing the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer on your computer.
    
    
    
    
17. Once the installation is complete, a confirmation screen opens. Click on OK Button
    
    
    
    

You have successfully installed a PowerPoint 2003 viewer Plug-in on to your computer. Now you will be able to view any powerpoint files on your blackboard classroom.
